“I have been fortunate as a player coach to be billeted all over the world and the Sarnia Saints are a fantastic club on and off the field. The club prides it self on being the best social club in Canada and the atmosphere is fantastic. The club play a fun and attractive style of rugby and have great links with schools and sponsors. My rugby experience in Canada was fantastic and it was down to the club, members and players. I would recommend this club to anyone that wants to be a part of a very special organisation that is built on family values. Sarnia is a great little town with lots to offer and I hope if you are fortunate to go on this experience and be part of the Saints that you will enjoy it as much as I did. ”

“I was very privileged to be hosted as a guest player/coach with the Saints in the summer of 2010. I felt incredibly welcome and at home during my stay due to the friendly and kind hearted ethos of all members at the club.  The rugby club itself is centrally located in the city of Sarnia and easily accessible, providing all members and guests with the opportunity to socialize and meet both on and off the field.  During my stay I had the privilege of working with the men’s, women’s and Junior A sides and all showed hardworking and ambitious qualities with the desire and motivation to excel and develop, this being a strong philosophy of the club. The Saints left a great impression on me and I can say that it was one of the best summer experiences I will ever have and ultimately hope to visit again in the future!”

“To anyone planning on spending the summer playing and coaching in Sarnia:

I went and did the same thing in 2009 and am hoping to do the same again. Let me give you the low down on what to expect. Firstly I have to say I’d thoroughly recommend it 100%. I had the best summer out there hence why I’m so keen to go back! Sarnia is a great place. It’s a small city but there are loads to do and the people are so welcoming and hospitable. The rugby is really good fun, the standard is competitive and improving every year. The guys are all very keen (numbers at training were normally about 30) and there are a lot of strong athletes.

Aside from the rugby you’ll have an absolute blast. Canada is an awesome place and Sarnia in the summer is a great town to be in. It’s right on one of the Great Lakes and the weather is so much better than Britain. I spent a lot of time during the day at the beach and on the lake wakeboarding, etc.

The boys at the club are a great laugh and the social side is brilliant. You’ll always find people keen to go out. We ended up having fun for 6 weeks pretty much non stop. Also the Canadian chicks love a British guy with an accent and they seemed very keen to ensure that we had a great time in Canada….So if that sounds appealing to you then go for it and hopefully I’ll see you out there in the summer.”

Cheers,

I have very good memories of playing rugby in Sarnia and the friends made there.  I know firsthand the “hospitality” that Sarnia provides!! If ever Sarnia has any players heading to New Zealand I will make arrangements with clubs in Taranaki and ensure that I return some of the hospitality that was afforded to me. When I do make it back to Canada I will be sure to swing past the club.

Cheers
